Cal. Pen. Code § 266(a)

Procurement by force or fraud; Prostitution and human trafficking; Punishment

Each person who, within this state, takes any person against his or her will and without his or her consent, or with his or her consent procured by fraudulent inducement or misrepresentation, for the purpose of prostitution, as defined in subdivision (b) of Section 647, is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison, and a fine not exceeding ten thousand dollars ($10,000).

Amendment History:

1975 Amendment: 

(1) Deleted “female” after “takes any”; (2) added “his or” before “her” wherever it appears; and (3) added “as defined in subdivision (b) of Section 647,”.

1976 Amendment:

Deleted “not exceeding five years” after “state prison”.

1983 Amendment:

Doubled the fine.

2014 Amendment:

Substituted (1) “Each person” for “Every person”; and (2) “ten thousand dollars ($10,000)” for “two thousand dollars ($2,000)”.
