The connection between the Super Bowl and sex trafficking is undeniable. And it’s not limited to the proximity of the event itself – exploitation can also spike in cities where gambling (i.e., Las Vegas) and viewership of the Super Bowl is at a peak.

What does it look like? Victims can be exploited for commercial sex in numerous contexts, including street prostitution, illicit massage parlors, cantinas, brothels, escort services, and online advertising.

Who is most vulnerable? According to the U.S Department of State, those living in poverty, in an unsafe or unstable situation are the most frequently preyed upon.

What can you look for? Indicators of possible victims can include, but are not limited to, having answers that seem to be rehearsed and scripted, having signs of physical abuse, seeming submissive and fearful, being under 18 and in prostitution.

How can you help? You can seek help by calling 911 or the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-378-7888. Please do not try to approach or rescue the victim as this could result in potential harm to you or the victim.
